Purim 2021

Hello everyone! Tomorrow is Purim so I wanted to drop in and wish everyone an early Chag Sameach or Happy Holiday! For those of you who don’t know, Purim is a Jewish holiday commemorating the story of Esther and the victory of the Jewish people over the treachery of Haman. Purim is a day set aside to celebrate God’s faithfulness to His people through the bleakest of circumstances. We celebrate by reading the Megilah (the book of Esther), giving to charity, giving gifts of food to friends and neighbors, having a festive meal and dressing up in disguises to remember how Esther’s true identity was hidden.

The day before this most joyous of festivals is traditionally a fast day called the Fast of Esther and this will be the first year I will be participating. In past years I’ve either forgotten or just decided not to due to circumstances, but this year when I saw it marked on the calendar, I really felt that it was something I wanted to do. I’ve been feeling so disconnected and just kind of floating through my days, so I’m looking forward to a grounding day of fasting and prayer. I was really inspired by this video which delves into the reason why we have a fast day right before one of the most joyful festivals.

Anyways, I wish you all a happy day and hopefully if we can get our act together, Katherine and I will be posting a few photos of our costumes on Friday, so till then I remain
