A Food Movie Review

Food Movies - A movie revolving around food and "cookage" that causes it's audience to suddenly take an ardent interest in the preparation of gourmet foods such as Creme Brulee, and Beef Bourguignon.  Audience members may also find themselves growing mysteriously hungry, and looking longingly to their kitchens....

It is a well known fact by now that we love to cook and consume food!! We also love to watch movies about food and fellow chefs, so here is our ranking of every food movie we have seen! While trying to decide what criteria entitled a movie to be ranked as a "food movie" we ran into the problem of including a film simply because they ate in it or prepared a meal! There are many Hallmarks out there that have a restaurant in the background, but cooking is not really a part of the movie, so for this list there are only movies where food was a main part of the story!  DISCLAIMER: We are not endorsing everything portrayed in these movies.
Katherine is writing in cursive and Grace is writing is BOLD!

1.
"Julie & Julia" follows the story of both Julia Child in the 1950s, and Julie Powell in 2002.  While Julia Child is finding her way to becoming a French cook, Julie Powell is struggling to find something purposeful to do to compensate for her miserable job.  Julie decides to cook her way through Julia Child's cookbook in one year, blogging about her results.
~ Julie and Julia is one of my favorite movies!  I have been personally guilty of going and obtaining a copy of Julia Child's cookbook from the library after seeing this film!  This movie will indeed make you want to cook.  Mark my words if I don't see you at the local library in the cookbook section after you watch this movie!

2.
When an Indian family sets up an Indian restaurant across the street from a Fine French Cuisine Restaurant, personalities and spices clash! The competition between the fine, french lady across the way and the warm, vibrant patriarch of the Indian restaurant gets even more personal when Hassan wishes to leave the Indian restaurant and learn how to cook like the French!
~ I love this movie so much!  The vibrant colors and strong family ties are so much fun. I love Margurite, she is so cute!

3.
Two feuding Pizzeria's in the city of Verona, NJ are right next door to each other and tensions run high when the son and daughter fall in love from opposite sides of the wall.
~ WARNING: you WILL crave pizza before the movie is over so it's best just to start out with some! I adore this spin on the whole Romeo and Juliet classic and it's one of the better Hallmark movies out there! The characters are so expressive and full of life, but I especially loved Annette and Carlo! They are so cute!

4.
Two New York chefs (who can't stand each other) decide to team up and compete in a dessert competition!
~ This was a fun watch!  I haven't revisited this movie in quite a while, so the details are escaping me, but something that sets this movie apart from other food movies is that it is solely about cooking desserts instead of your usual fancy Entrees.  The chefs' hostile relationship is also quite fun to watch as they are "forced" to work together for this competition!

5.
Kate's position as the head chef of a fine dining restaurant is suddenly threatened when a substitute is found to fill in for her while she mourns a death in the family.  Upon returning to work, she finds out that the annoying fill in chef is not leaving, but is remaining a permanent fixture in her kitchen!  What's worse is, could she possibly be falling for him???
~
Ok, the music alone should give this movie one of it's five stars!  This movie gives you the taste of the contagious restaurant ambiance, the busy white-clad staff, coming in and out of the kitchen, the mad rush to fill incoming orders.....Ah, yes you must add this to your watch list!

6.
Yes, this movie is included in our list! Come on, it it totally about food and so much fun! I'm sure you all know the plot, so I shan't bore you with a rehashing, but instead will put our favorite quotes!!!

ahem...moving on...

7.
Chez's restaurant is where you can find excellent burgers and fries, but at Sara's next door cafe, you can taste some "magnifique" Crepes de Chocolate!  These two "neighboring" head chefs find themselves in a small "feud" after Chez moves in next door to Sara's Cafe!
~
This is hilarious to watch between the two head chefs' prank playing on each other's restaurants, and the parts where Sara starts teaching Chez's daughter french cooking!

8.
When an aspiring cook gets a job at her favorite chef's restaurant, she thinks her biggest wish just came true! What will she do as complications arise when she clashes with the head chef and discovers her boss is stealing her recipes?
~
I (Grace) am not as big a fan of Hallmark movies yet Katherine is and this one did not impress me...kinda as usual! The most interesting part (for me) was when she breaded her fried chicken with crushed ice cream cones.

9.
Trish forgets to turn her clocks back for daylight savings time making her late for a blind date, so she is thankful her date is still there...or is he? Adam is just finishing his breakfast when a strange woman sits down at his table and begins a conversation. The two discover a connection and decide see each other again.
~
This is a sweet story, though I didn't like Trish very much. I don't really have a good reason why, she just seemed too quick to judge and was so zoned in on her work that she couldn't focus on anything or anyone else. Trish is trying to win a cupcake contest and open a second bakery while attempting this relationship so there is lots of frosting and cupcakes laying around and much taste testing! It really is best if you have a few cupcake yourself on hand to you know...look at...or eat!!!
~
Are you hungry yet? Have you seen any of these before? What are your favorite food movies? Do honor us with your comments and tell us all about it!  We can't wait....seriously we shall be stalking our page till you comment!!!!  Meanwhile...Grace?  Pack our bags!  We leave for Le Cordon Bleu tonight!

Au Revoir,
